Lorri's 2003 Marine Corp Marathon Website

Hi Everyone! Thanks for visiting my website. On October 26, 2003, I will be running in my 2nd TNT Marathon in Washington D.C. Yes, another 26.2 miles! For those of you not familiar with TNT - Team in Training (TNT) is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's fund raising / endurance training program that prepares people of all skill levels to participate in major marathons. While we are training, we also raise funds to support research for blood-related cancers, as well as educational and assistance programs for patients and their families.

This will be my 2nd event as a TNT member. Last year I ran in the Dublin Marathon. With the help of my coaches, my mentors, my teammates, and the TNT staff, I was able to finish my first ever marathon in 4 hours and 52 minutes! (A full 8 minutes under my goal!!!) I was also able to raise $3,800 for the Leukemia Society. I want to thank all of you who supported me last year and especially those of you who sent in your contributions in to the Leukemia Society.

This year I'll be shooting for 4 hours and 30 minutes (although anything under 4:52 will do just fine.) Yeah, I know a lot of you think I am crazy for going through this again. I think I actually agree with you. I think about last year experiences: Getting up at 4:30 in the morning to go running, not being able to go out on the weekends b/c I know I have a long run the next morning, giving up things like beer, wine, and that piece of cheesecake at dinner, and then of course there was my poison oak incident from last year :) Anyway, its not the easiest thing in the world to do. But the fact is, it really is for a good cause. The feeling of accomplishment when you cross that finish line is something nobody can describe. Knowing that not only did you finish a marathon (which not a lot of people can claim to have done) but in the process you did something to help people - by raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In the end - all of the pain and sacrifice is worth it.

Many of you have probably already received a letter or an e-mail from me asking for your support. Well, don't worry, I won't ask any of you to get up at 4:30 a.m. in the morning (yes I really do get up that early some days to run) and go out for a leisurely 20 mile run with me, but I will keep asking that you make your donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Every amount makes a difference and every contribution helps.

Feel free to browse through the website, sign the guestbook, or use the "donate" page to get a donation form to mail in. I'll be updating it each week with my latest training runs and any pictures I take along the way.

Thank you all for your support!!
